Gumbaynggirr Country

The Gumbaynggirr people were often called the ‘sharing people’ because their land was so rich in resources, they regularly shared food and other goods with neighbouring nations. When you visit Gumbaynggirr Country, take the opportunity to connect with their stories, knowledge, and the land and waters of the Coffs Coast. Be respectful, enjoy the abundance, and experience the magic of this special ‘place of plenty.’

What I Enjoyed

Forest Sky Pier

Just a short drive from Coffs Harbour, the Forest Sky Pier at Niigi Niigi – Sealy Lookout offers stunning coastal views and is nestled in the Orara East State Forest, on Gumbayggirr country.

A quick 10-minute drive takes you to the lookout, which is free and open during daylight hours. From here, enjoy panoramic views of Coffs Harbour and the coastline. There are rainforest walks (1–3 hours), picnic spots, and accessible facilities, including a shelter for those with mobility needs.

Don’t miss the Nyanggan Gapi cafe for a coffee, or book an adventure at Coffs Treetops! For a scenic stroll, walk 500m to the Gumgali Track, where you’ll discover the Gumbaynggirr legend of Gumgali the black goanna through art, sculptures, and sound.

Jetty Beach

Jetty Beach is a family-friendly, protected spot loved by locals and tourists alike. With new accessible facilities like a beach mat and wheelchairs, plus lifeguards during the summer holidays, it's perfect for everyone.

Just behind the beach, you'll find Jetty Foreshores Park, which has showers, toilets, barbecues, picnic areas, and pathways for bikes and rollerblades. The park is also home to the Jetty restaurant strip, the Marina, Yacht Club, and is a short walk from the railway station.

For extra fun, try snorkelling, fishing, or visiting the Harbourside Markets on Sundays. Enjoy fresh seafood from the Fishermen's Co-op, go whale or dolphin watching, stroll along the Jetty, or explore the breakwalls for stunning Harbour views!

Harbourside Markets

Every Sunday from 8am to 2pm, the Harbourside Market brings the best of Coffs Harbour to the beach, just by the historic Jetty. With local food trucks, art, jewelry, clothing, plants, vintage treasures, and more, it’s your one-stop shop for all things unique and handmade.

This all-abilities market is perfect for everyone, with wide paths and accessible toilets. Dogs are welcome on a leash, and if they need a run, the council-approved leash-free dog beach is nearby!

Enjoy free live music from top local artists on the main stage, plus community events like the Buskers Festival and Summer Beach Hop Show & Shine. So, come for the shopping, stay for the vibe!

Bucca Valley Blueberries "PICK YOUR OWN"

Head north of Coffs Harbour to Bucca Valley Blueberries for a fun, chemical-free berry-picking experience! The honesty system makes it easy: just grab a bucket, fill it with delicious blueberries, weigh it (bring cash and small change). While you're there feed the turtles —perfect for a family outing!

Skywalk lookout

The Skywalk lookout, connected to the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre, offers stunning bird's-eye views of the surrounding landscape. Perched on the escarpment, it overlooks Bellinger Valley, with deep gorges and lush rainforest. Keep an eye out for regent bowerbirds, topknot pigeons, and grey goshawks!

The 70-meter boardwalk soars 21 meters above the rainforest, providing panoramic views of the Rosewood rainforest basin. Take a stroll along the Rosewood Creek walking track for a closer look. It is easy to access and perfect for nature lovers!

The Promised Land and Never Never River

A hidden gem in the hinterland, where you can find multiple swimming holes nestled among pristine forest.

It’s the perfect base for exploring the stunning Waterfall Way, with its dramatic waterfalls, World Heritage-listed rainforests, and plenty of river activities to enjoy!

Woolgoolga

Woolgoolga, on the mid-north NSW coast, is a coastal paradise with unspoilt beaches, lush farmland, and vibrant rainforest. This charming town, whose name comes from the Aboriginal word for 'bush plum,' offers the perfect spot for a getaway. The standout landmark is the striking Guru Nanak Sikh Temple, built in 1969, with its white façade and minarets. Visitors are welcome to explore the temple and its museum, or enjoy a free vegetarian feast.

In September, Woolgoolga hosts Curryfest, a celebration of Punjabi cuisine, dance, and culture—guaranteed to spice things up! Don't miss out on the town's excellent Indian restaurants for a flavour-packed experience.

TOP TIP grab some fish and chips from Sea Salt and enjoy it by the beach

Big Banna

We can't forget the Big Banna this has been a stopping point for my family when I was a kid (just a few years ago lol). Must have a banana split off and for the kids grab a ticket for the water park the perfect way to cool down.

Twilight Food Market

A family- and pet-friendly food market offering a tasty mix of multicultural cuisine, with plenty of options for the kids! Grab a blanket, some drinks, and unwind while enjoying live entertainment.
